Welcome to Haad Yao!

You've just entered the pearl of Phangan's west coast! ;-)

I personally find Had Yao as the perfect destination on Koh Phangan for couples and newly weds!

Me and my boyfriend visited Haad Yao in May 2010.

Along with other beaches in Koh Phangan, Haad Yao is clean and pretty! Since it was the low season, there were few people occupying the beach, and we had loads of space around us. The water was crystal clear, but shallow.

All in all -- beautiful!

Where: If you're in Thong Sala, take a Songthaew (100-150 B) to Haad Yao beach. The ride takes about 20 minutes.

I got to warn you, the roads in Koh Phangan are not all great. You'll mostly feel like you're riding a rollercoaster from Thongsala to Haad Yao.

And it doesn't get any better when the driver drives like Satan. So if you don't have a hard stomach, you should take a motion-sickness tablet before you get in! (I did that every time :-S)

Price per night: 1000 B (low season)

We stayed in Had Yao in early May.

Since it was the low season, they offered us a special price: room for 500 B!

Otherwise the rooms start from 1000 B.

Our room (505) was huge, super clean, had a comfortable bed, sheets and towels were changed every day.

It came with air-con, fridge and TV. We were truly lucky about this room.

I wish that we had come to Haad Yao earlier ;-)

Book room at Had Yao Bay View Resort:
The resort has a restaurant overlooking the beach and a swimming pool!

Thai and Western dishes were on the menu, and the food was delicious. Their Pad Thai was amazing, and with water melon shake it is all good!

Highlight of the menu must be their BBQ, which they start after sunset.

During the afternoon, they set up tables and chairs right on the beach, so you can eat and at the same time watch the gorgeous sunset!

I tried their grilled mackerel with baked potato and curry/coconut sauce, and it was tasteful! :-)

Haad Yao bay view resort will definitely suit backpacker couples and backpacker families.

Where to Grab a Drink/Party in Had Yao

At night, Haad Yao beach comes to live with music, beers and buckets. Take a stroll along the beach and join the party which suits you best.

One night we went to Eagle Pub which is right on the Had Yao beach. Here we chilled to soft rock and the beers kept coming.

Otherwise, you can find bars along the main road, or you can take a taxi to Thongsala and Haad Rin. If you want nightlife, go to Haad Rin. That's where all the partying is…! Maybe you'll stay long enough for the Half or Full Moon party...?

PS! Keep an eye on flyers and posters. There's always a big party event going on in Koh Phangan!

What to do in Had Yao -- Activities

Other than sunbathing and getting that terrific tan, you can always join the full package safari boat, which includes snorkeling in Koh Ma, elephant riding, visit to the Chinese temple in Chaloklum and Than Sadet waterfall (1200 B).

Why not join a cooking class in Haad Yao? Mam offers cooking classes every day from 10.00 am to 12 pm. You can choose between two sets.

Set A includes: Spring rolls, papaya salad, panaeng curry, and chicken in coconut soup.

Set B includes: Pad Thai, chicken and cashew nuts, tom yam soup and green curry.
