The whole town lights up and the market becomes the hightlight of the evening!
You can get:
T-shirts (with "Lao Beer" prints, rock star prints etc), beautiful weavings (like silk scarves), home-made soft toys, wooden frog toys, pencil cases, stuffed snakes and other animals locked up in jars, paintings, accessories, handbags, Laotian crafts, souvenirs, paper lamps, pillow cases, slippers with elephant prints, umbrellas and so much more!!!
I got eight elephant soft toys for $ 2 and two paintings for $ 4.
Always shop around for prices if it's possible.
Open: 5 pm to 11 pm
There's nothing particular about the day market -– you can find the items they sell at the evening market as well, and in a better variety.
I bought a scarf here for $ 1 from an old sweet Laotian lady, but that's about it. You'll find mostly textiles; scarves, fabrics and traditional clothing.
Where: near Royal Palace, on Th Sisavangvong.
During day-time there are shops along Th Sisavangvong. Anything from textile galleries to travel gear.
I remember this nice shop with all sorts of travel gear - it's called Walkman Village. It was located on the same side as the Scandinavian Bakery (walk towards Th Sakkarin). You wouldn't believe how large their selection was in jackets, backpacks and sandals!
At Walkman Village, I bought this small, cool backpack -- perfect for day-trips, and my first Teva sport sandals! ;-) (as far as I know they sell real Tevas, and not fake ones)
