Thai Airways is Thailand's national airline and has been in business since 1960. 93% of the airline is owned by the Thai Government and 7% by the private market. This airline has more of a high-maintenance profile. It's efficient and has maintained good service, but it's also more expensive than other airlines operating to/from Thailand, or domestic airlines in Thailand. Domestic routes: For instance: From Bangkok there are flights to Chang Mai Thailand, Chiang Rai, Hat Yao, Khon Kaen, Koh Samui, Krabi, Phuket, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchatani and Udon Thani. International routes: Thai Airways operates to/from 70 cities in Europe, North America, Australia and Asia. The advantage here is the fact you lessen the stop-overs or luckily get a direct flight to Bangkok with no stop-overs at all. Baggage allowance is 20-40kg depending on which class you're traveling in. Standard economy class allows 20kg. Where: Flights from Bangkok leave Suvarnabhumi airport. Bangkok Airways
Domestic routes: From Bangkok, there are flights to Chiang Mai, Krabi (for Ko Phi Phi or Koh Lanta), Lampang, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui, Sukhotai and Trat (for Ko Chang island). This airline is one of the budget airlines in Thailand. For backpackers, this is the ultimate option for domestic traveling in the country. It also offers ferry service to the islands like Koh Lipe, Koh Pha Ngan, Koh Samui, Koh Lanta and Ko Phi Phi and Pulau Langkawi. Ferries to Koh Phi Phi, Langkawi operate only from December 1 to April 30. If you for instance make a flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani, a bus will wait at Surat Thani airport and then drive to the ferries.
Baggage allowance is 15-30kg depending on what kind of ticket you have bought. The Nok Eco, which is the standard class, allows 15kg. Nok Flexi allows 20kg. So have this in mind when you're booking tickets. Where: Nok Air operates from Don Mueang airport in Bangkok. Nok Air has received good reviews from travelers: flight on time, efficient and excellent service! ;-)
