If there's one attraction in Hong Kong that can't be missed -- it must be The Peak. It's one of the most visited tourist attractions in Hong Kong -– by all sorts of travelers.

Why is the place so special?

I can answer that with two words: Spectacular view.

Yes, breathtaking view of Hong Kong island.

The Peak Hong Kong

We visited Hong Kong in December 2008. And of course, The Peak was on our agenda. We took the Peak Tram like all the others. On top of the whole thing, we were met by shops, restaurants, lots of people and of course the Peak Tower.

When we exited the terminal and walked to the Sky Terrace, it was amazing! The Sky Terrace rises 428 meters above sea level, so you can just imagine the panoramic view. The wind blew a little hard that day, but the sun was shining so it wasn't cold. It was just refreshing.

To overlook Hong Kong island and pieces of Kowloon gave us the 'wow'-feeling. Really beautiful.

There are other things to do there, for example visiting the Historical Gallery or shop at the Market, but we didn't do those things.

Recommended time: 2-3 hours (included Sky Terrace + walking around a bit + transportation).

Add two-three more hours if you want to see the gallery, dine at the restaurants and go shopping.

How to get to The Peak Hong Kong

Tram arrives!

Most people take the Peak Tram to get to the Peak.

The most convenient MTR station is the Central Station on Hong Kong island. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk from the station to the Peak Tram Lower Terminal.

The tram rises to 396 meters above sea level and it's awesome to ascend to the top.

It can be a little scary at first, but the reward is huge when you first get on top of the mountain.

Price for Peak Tram: HK$ 40 (return ticket) and HK$28 for single ticket. All tickets are sold at Garden Road Peak Tram Lower Terminal or appointed travel agents.

The terminal is open from 7.00 am to midnight (Mon - Sun & public holidays).

Have in mind that the queue to get on board can be overwhelming. There are so many visitors here!

The Peak Hong Kong: Outside the terminal

But the tram departs every 10-15 minutes, so the waiting is forgiving. When we first arrived there, the queue stopped outside the terminal. But it was quickly dissolving. We waited for maybe 30 minutes.
