Looking for accommodation in Vientiane?

Most of the budget accommodation is centered around the fountain of Nam Phou, and some along Lane Xang Avenue.

If you're picky about accommodation, you should book ahead. Otherwise, there's a drop-in/walk-in principle.

You show up and if they have rooms, you have one! If not, you move on to the next guesthouse. That will not be a problem in Vientiane since there are so many other budget options.

Here are some options just for you! :D

Mixay

Price per night: $ 5 (dorms)

If you're on a tight budget, a dorm at Mixay is one of the cheapest you can get in Vientiane!

But you get what you pay for.

It's Spartan basic and the shared bathroom wasn't always clean. And beware of possible bed bugs -- I woke up in the middle of the night because something was like, stinging me.

Where: Near Wat Mixay

Saysouly Guesthouse

The balcony facing the street at Saysouly GH

Price per night: $ 8 (fan), $15 (AC)

We stayed at Saysouly Guesthouse in Nov 2007.

For $ 8, you'll get a double room with fan and shared bathroom. It was simple, clean and spacious enough.

If you want to relax with a beer or just grab a smoke, they have a nice balcony facing the street!

The reason why we chose this guesthouse was because of its location.

It's just 3 minutes from the Mekong River where all the nice restaurants are located.

Vayakorn Guesthouse

Price per night: $22 (single room), $32 (double room)

We indulged ourselves in clean and spacious rooms, Western toilet, TV and hot showers. It's just a walking distance to shops and a 8-minutes walk to the river -- it's located right in the middle of the town.

The staff was helpful and polite. Before leaving for Vientiane, we sent an booking e-mail. They responded the same day.

We couldn't ask for more -- good value if you want a mid-range accommodation!

Thongbay Guesthouse

Price per night: $ 14 (cheapest room in the high season), $ 12 (cheapest room in the low season)

I think Thongbay has the most stylish rooms in Vientiane. All with unique Lao furniture.

Well, it's just a shame that the place is rundown and not to mention, neglected. The place could use a lift-up.

But the atmosphere did make up for it. When we stayed there for one night, it was calm.

Check out Thongbay's website.
